arduino serial communication

Hello,
I have been trying to read-out an the serial print from an arduino program. Using the peripherals serial input block (or the biomobius hardware serial input) I do get some values, but I can't make sense of them. My guess is that the arduino sends ASCII code, which I am unable to convert into characters in eyesWeb.
Might that be the problem? Or has anyone another idea how to approach this?
